Due to a persistent ankle issue, the former Spain international was forced to give up playing.
Michu, a former star of the Premier League, announced on social media on Tuesday that he was retiring from football due to an ankle injury.

“According to medical reports, the current situation of my right ankle has come to a point where is [sic] has forced me to say goodbye to you as a professional football player today,” he wrote in a letter.

After beginning his career at Oviedo, he went on to play for Celta and Vallecano before transferring for £2 million to Swansea.
