Shortstop for the Chicago White Sox Tim Anderson, who clashed with José Ramírez, the third baseman for the Cleveland Guardians on August 5, will miss five games.
After Anderson filed an appeal, the six-game suspension was lowered to one game.
White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson and the suspension imposed on August 7th have reached a settlement,” MLB communications announced on X, the former Twitter platform. “He will now serve a five-game suspension that will begin on Friday, when Chicago plays at Colorado.”
Chicago will host the Seattle Mariners for a three-game set on Friday before starting a three-game series against the Colorado Rockies.
Anderson can make his comeback against the Mariners on August 23.
After an appeal, Ramírez’s punishment was also lowered, and the five-time All-Star was only required to miss two games. Against the Tampa Bay Rays last weekend, Ramírez served his suspension.
For the incident that cleared the benches, third base coach Mike Sarbaugh, White Sox manager Pedro Grifol, and Guardians manager Terry Francona were all given one-game penalties.
In Cleveland, the brawl broke out in the bottom of the sixth inning as Ramírez slid into second base beneath Anderson’s legs. Before getting into a square, the two spoke to one other. Following several blows from Anderson, Ramírez stunned Anderson with a powerful blow.
“I felt like I was able to land one,” Ramírez stated via interpreter following the match.
Ramírez continued, “He’s been disrespecting the game for a while.” “He can remove someone from the game when he acts in that manner on the bases. I was therefore advising him to cease doing that. He indicated he wanted to fight after giving me more than one hard tap. I had to stand up for myself, too.
The 2023 MLB season has seen Anderson, a career.282 hitter, struggle at the plate as he has only hit.238 so far.
