The Hall of Fame coach is regarded as the model of morality, yet Tony Dungy has covered up his anti-gay prejudice with his piety.

For years, I have covered the March for Life in Washington, D.C. However, one first-time participant in this year’s march on January 20 is announcing a wild excitement over the upcoming activities. Tony Dungy is a retired Hall of Fame coach, cohost of the highly regarded NBC program Football in America, and a man of character who is respected across the NFL community. It’s not the first time, either, that Dungy is taking his reputation for a test drive. Dungy has been an anti-gay bigot for years, and neither the NFL nor NBC seem to care. He gives speeches at conferences with virulently anti-homophobic organizers. Michael Sam is a gay football player, and he publicly and proudly stated that he would not want him on his squad. not wish to have Michael Sam, a gay football player, on his team. He declared more than ten years ago that he didn’t agree with Jason Collins’ “lifestyle,” the first openly gay male athlete in the main four North American sports. Dungy frequently refers to being LGBT as a “lifestyle,” despite the fact that he has been told time and time again how offensive and out of date this descriptor is. He’s just not bothered. This week, Dungy made headlines again for sounding like a talk-radio caller or Supreme Court Justice Sam Alito when he turned to Twitter to criticize a Minnesota state lawmaker for outlining how a new law would provide tampons in public restrooms.
The Twin Cities’ schools would have male restrooms. Naturally, this is none of Dungy’s non-menstrual business. However, he felt compelled to voice his opinion by bringing the Daily Wire’s outrage at women going through their periods to a new level in a letter.
