Unbelievable:The Tampa bay Buccaneers former head coach Bruce Arians has offofficially announced his return to the position
Bruce Arians could not seem to fit into retirement.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed Arians as their head coach, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
After five seasons with the Cardinals and a 49-30-1 record, Arians, 66, announced his retirement following the 2018 season. He experienced a number of health problems while playing for the squad, including two hospitalizations in the 2016 campaign. He also later mentioned in his book that he had a malignant lesion removed from his liver in 2016.
Arians stated to the Canton Repository in November that the head coaching position with the Cleveland Browns would be “the only job I would consider.” However, he was formerly employed by Jason Licht, the general manager of the Buccaneers and the vice president of player personnel for the Cardinals.
Jameis Winston of the Buccaneers and Arians have a history together. Arians coached Winston in his boyhood in a football camp he conducted in Birmingham, Alabama, alongside his son Jake. In a 2016 interview, Arians reflected back on those times with The Republic.
Arians remarked at the time, “Jaboo’s (Winston’s nickname) been a legend since he was in the ninth grade.” “.. I’ve known about him and heard about him for a very long time. Simply amazing as an athlete. A very intelligent man with an arm cannon. In the ninth or tenth grade, he was most likely throwing fastballs at 90 miles per hour at that time.
Jameis Winston is expected to return for the 2019 campaign, according to General Manager Jason Licht, so Arians will already have his quarterback in the lineup. In his sixth year of option money, Winston is expected to make $20.9 million.
After three seasons, Dirk Koetter was just let go by the Buccaneers.
Winston, the first overall choice in the 2015 draft, recalled the football camp when he spoke with The Republic in 2016 and shared how Arians encouraged him to dream of playing in the NFL.
Winston remarked, “He’s one of the first people that gave me that dream of getting a Super Bowl ring.” He showed us everyone his Pittsburgh Steelers (Super Bowl) ring when he arrived at the training. I remember thinking at the time, “Man, I wish I could get one of those rings.”
In his two seasons as head coach of the Cardinals and subsequently as interim head coach of the Colts, Arians was voted NFL Coach of the Year in 2012 and 2014. As an assistant coach for the Steelers, he was on two teams that won Super Bowls.
