If she is not, I will leave the all time player for Iowa women’s basketball Hannah Stuelke officially sad.
Hawkeye supporters were left wondering why standout sophomore Hannah Stuelke of the Iowa women’s basketball team didn’t participate in the second half of the team’s NCAA Tournament victory over Holy Cross on Saturday.
Following the game, Lisa Bluder, the Iowa coach, gave ESPN’s Holly Rowe the explanation.
Rowe tweeted: “I just spoke with Coach Lisa Bluder of @IowaWBB about why Hannah Stuelke wasn’t there in the second half. “They can give her Monday to recover because she didn’t feel well and we wouldn’t use her if we didn’t have to,” the huge lead said.
Stuelke went on to say she doesn’t think the problem will keep her from competing in the next round. “Without a doubt,” she replied.
That’s it, then. Even with Stuelke sitting on the bench due to illness, the Hawkeyes still had enough firepower to defeat Holy Cross.
It seems like there is nothing serious to be concerned about, and Stuelke should be fine to play against the winner of West Virginia-Princeton on Monday in the second round.
Stuelke, a native of Cedar Rapids, averages 14.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 65% from the field per game. She played 10 minutes in the first half, pulling down two rebounds and drawing two fouls. Stuelke did not score.
