If he is not fired, I will leave the Colorado Buffaloes head coach, as he has a misunderstanding with his player.

I’ll step down as the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes if he is not fired because of a miscommunication with a player.

During his weekly radio appearance, Sanders was asked about the recruits’ thoughts on the Buffaloes’ current four-game losing streak. Sanders stated that he believes the recruits he is pursuing aren’t considering the recent setbacks before focusing on meeting with coaches who have informed high school students that he won’t be in Boulder for very long.

“They’re not reflecting on what happened. They’re considering how they can complete the puzzle and make this happen,” Sanders stated. That’s where they are, then. First and foremost, I never discuss other coaches, teams, or staffs. I reject that as true. I’m not going to undermine you in order to get on my feet. Never in my life have I been that kind of player or person.

“However, these young men and their families are being told by all these other schools that I will not be attending. I approach it from two different angles. They believe that I will depart because we will be so successful. Thus, they are aware of our capabilities and potential. However, that is untrue.

Following Jimbo Fisher’s firing by Texas A&M on Sunday, Sanders has been mentioned as a possible contender, and some other media members have asked whether he ought to coach an SEC institution.

Additionally, 2025 five-star receiver Winston Watkins Jr. decommitted from the program over the weekend, costing Sanders and Colorado another highly-regarded recruit.

Watkins’s withdrawal stoked speculation that he may transfer, but earlier in the week, Sanders said he had no interest in attending any other university.

“I would be the first to tell you that I think our whole family has an anchor here right now,” Sanders stated. “Everyone—my daughter, the dog, and my mother. We adore being here so much. We genuinely adore it completely.

Sanders said, “But that’s what they use,” as applause from the audience cut him off. “I must deal with all of these kinds of problems. The main issue with recruits and their families is that. Other schools are telling them this.”

In terms of on-field considerations, Colorado is currently 4-6 and needs to win to secure a position in this postseason’s bowl game. In Week 11, they were on the verge of breaking their losing streak when they almost beat No. 17 Arizona before the Wildcats scored the game-winning field goal at the last second.

Friday, Colorado travels to Pullman, Washington, to play fellow four-win team Washington State (10:30 p.m. ET on FS1 and the FOX Sports app). This will be Colorado’s easiest opponent in weeks.
