Olly Lee, a former midfielder for Luton Town, was forced to declare his retirement from competition at the age of just 31.
The former Hatter had been playing ten games for League Two Gillingham this season, but not since a December 2-1 loss at Sutton United.

Lee progressed through the West Ham United system before spending time on loan at Dagenham & Redbridge, Gillingham, Barnet, and Birmingham. In 2013, he moved permanently to St Andrew’s.
After another transfer to Plymouth, Lee was signed by former Luton manager John Still in August 2015.
It was the beginning of an incredible period in his career, as the midfield player would go on to play 123 games for the Hatters and score 11 goals, including the now-famous goal from a different postcode when he scored against Cambridge United from inside his own half.
As Luton gained promotion to League One, Lee also scored in the 1-1 draw against Carlisle United. During that season, he played at Kenilworth Road with his brother Elliot before moving on to move north of the line and sign with Hearts of the Scottish Premier League in the summer of 2018.
He spent three years in Tynecastle; however, he was twice loaned to Gillingham during that time. In June 2021, he made the permanent move to Priestfield.
Over the course of his 13-year career, Lee played over 350 games. The Gills released the following statement: “Everyone at Gillingham Football Club is devastated for Olly to have to retire.”
