If he is not fired, I will leave the Swansea City head coach…
As we continue to celebrate Tottenham Hotspur’s football team’s undefeated performance this weekend, there is some quick (and excellent!) news to share: Chris Davies, Ange Postecoglou’s top assistant coach, has chosen to stay at Spurs rather than becoming the next head coach of Swansea City. BBC Sports Wales is the source of the information.
Despite its briefness, the story implies that Davies turned down the chance to stay with Tottenham.
This is undoubtedly fantastic news because it offers Postecoglou continuity throughout his exciting but eventful first season with the Spurs. Davies had previously had an approach from Tottenham rejected, but Big Ange had stated categorically that this did not necessarily imply he wouldn’t accept the position if offered. Postecoglou has stated at news conferences that Davies made the decision and that if he was interested in the role, he would not obstruct him. Prior to Swansea hiring the since-fired Michael Duff as head coach last summer, Davies was a finalist for the post.

Michael Duff, the head coach of Swansea City, was fired after less than six months in charge of the Championship team. Swansea is currently in the 18th spot in the league rankings following Duff’s departure, which follows a string of setbacks that included just one victory in eight games.
The 45-year-old had difficulties during his time there, and this season he had trouble being consistent for the team. Martin Paterson has therefore also left, and Alan Sheehan, another deputy head coach, takes over as the team’s temporary manager.
Sheehan will take over as interim manager this Saturday when Swansea takes on Rotherham United, who is now in second place in the league, looking to win its first league game in five.
Duff’s brief tenure started with a seven-game losing streak until the squad went on to win four straight games, which at first improved their league standing. But Duff was fired because of his recent poor performance, which saw him earn just six points out of a possible 24.
Following the team’s most recent match against Huddersfield, some Swansea supporters expressed their displeasure with the former manager of Cheltenham Town and Barnsley.
Swansea City has acknowledged that the process of selecting a new head coach has already begun. After Russell Martin left for Southampton in June, Duff signed a deal with Swansea that would last until 2026. Duff had previously played for Barnsley in League One.
Swansea is just five points above relegation despite major off-field changes and a revamp of the playing roster, which included chairman Andy Coleman’s comments that the team should aim for promotion. The team has come under fire for abandoning its possession-based style of play, which had previously been crucial to their success.
Furthermore, during his time at Swansea, Duff’s relationship with the team’s supporters has occasionally been tense.
