The Wolverines provided Longhorns supporters even more cause to mark their calendars for the University of Texas’s season-ending trip to Michigan on Monday night, if they hadn’t already.
The front end of a heavyweight home-and-home series that was first announced in 2014 will now include the defending national champion following the Wolverines’ 34-13 victory over Washington to win the College Football Playoff National Championship on September 7 in Ann Arbor.
The original plan for the show was to return to Ann Arbor in 2027 and start in Austin the following season. The two parties decided to reverse that last spring, with Michigan hosting the following season and the return journey to Austin scheduled for September 11, 2027.
Texas and Michigan have only ever faced each other once, at the Rose Bowl in 2005 after the 2004 season. The Longhorns won 38-37 thanks to Dusty Mangum’s 37-yard field goal with one second remaining. Vince Young had finished with 372 yards overall and five touchdowns to cap off an 11-1 campaign.
Texas’ first home games are against Colorado State on August 30 at Memorial Stadium. After that, they will play UTSA on September 14 and Louisiana Monroe on September 28. Texas will next travel to Michigan. The Longhorns’ SEC debut will take place Sept. 28 vs. Mississippi State in Austin.
Texas’s Austin We now know who the Longhorns’ opponents will be when they start playing in the SEC, thanks to the Southeastern Conference’s announcement of the 2024 schedule on Wednesday.
The earlier announcements included Texas’ homestand against Georgia on October 19 and four non-conference games.
In 2024, Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, and Mississippi State will all visit Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
Texas will travel to face Arkansas, Texas A&M, and Vanderbilt in the SEC. Texas will play Oklahoma in Dallas as the official visiting team.
On September 7, there is also a matchup against Michigan. Texas’ first SEC game is against Mississippi State on September 28.
On October 12, Texas and Oklahoma will play at the Cotton Bowl.
Texas will go to Nashville in order to attend Vanderbilt on Oct. 26. The Longhorns will host Florida on Nov. 9.
