Sad news: The Tottenham Hotspur head coach has announced his retirement due to his health conditions.
The head coach of Tottenham Hotspur has announced his resignation owing to health issues. This is sad news.
Following a post-operative check in his home country on Wednesday, Tottenham has announced that Antonio Conte will stay at his family’s Italian residence. Following his gallbladder removal surgery two weeks prior, the head coach made his way back to Hotspur Way last Thursday, when he served in the dugout during the team’s losses to AC Milan and Leicester City.
Cristian Stellini will take on lead duties with the first team, Tottenham has revealed in a statement. The head coach, who stayed behind in Italy following their Champions League loss for a check-up, is not expected back at this time, according to the club.
“After a routine post-operation check in Italy yesterday (Wednesday), Antonio Conte will remain at his family home to further and fully recover from his recent gallbladder surgery,” according to a statement posted on Tottenham’s official website.
“Health is the most important consideration and everyone at the club wishes him well.”Cristian Stellini will take over for the First Team.
Speaking on the San Siro after Tuesday’s 1-0 loss to AC Milan, the 53-year-old discussed his health and the difficulties he had a few days previously while on the touchline at Leicester City.
“I was wearing a medical device in that period (a post-operative stomach support), but I was still able to interact in a fair enough way with the team. I was not 100 percent in my physical shape, but in the next game I will be fit and try to give my contribution.”
In an interview prior to Tottenham’s Champions League Round of 16 match against AC Milan, Conte acknowledged that he had disregarded medical advice to return to Tottenham early.
As stated by the Evening Standard, “The doctor’s recommendation is to stay calm for 15 days,” the head coach stated. “He had told me not to go back, but you feel obligated to spend every minute with your guys and to feel the atmosphere in any circumstance.
“I’m making every effort to control it, but I can’t always hear the players as much as I would like during a game. I feel so much better now than I did earlier.
“We have experienced four serious injuries in the past seven days. In my opinion, it is crucial to stick together at this trying time and strive to foster a positive atmosphere in order to support one another even more than in the past and work together to get through this challenging time.
In the Premier League, Tottenham will host West Ham on Sunday afternoon. The following week, Chelsea will visit Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
