Due to his wife, the LSU Football all-time two players have officially announced there retirements due to…
In LSU’s intense quarterback competition this spring, we have been waiting for a significant domino to fall, and that news finally arrived on Monday.
According to a report by WWL radio host Kristian Garic, Myles Brennan, a sixth-year quarterback who was regarded as the front-runner for the starting position, is quitting football following two seasons marred by injuries.
According to Garic, coach Brian Kelly informed Brennan that he would not be selected for the starting position. We are currently waiting on Brennan or LSU to confirm the accuracy of the report.
Brennan’s exit would appear to give Arizona State transfer Jayden Daniels a better chance of landing the position. After serving as the starting quarterback in Tempe for three years, Daniels was Kelly’s personal transfer portal choice.
Daniels had some difficulties in 2021 following two successful seasons in which he threw 22 touchdowns with just three picks. Despite playing in more games, his yardage total decreased dramatically from his first season as the starter. He threw ten interceptions for every touchdown pass. He did, however, record the highest completion percentage of his career (65.4).
Redshirt freshman Garrett Nussmeier, who saw some time in the fall and made an impression this spring, continues to provide Daniels with at least some challenge.
With this choice, Brennan ends a long and twisted career that didn’t go as expected. Following three seasons as a backup, including two behind Joe Burrow, the greatest passer in school history, Brennan started the 2020 campaign at the beginning.
He had a great start to the season, but his campaign was cut short in Week 3 by an abdominal injury. It was anticipated that he would keep his starting position going into 2021; however, he lost his season due to an arm ailment that was unrelated to football just before camp.
During the season, Brennan first used the transfer portal, but even when Daniels was added, he decided to stay at LSU. He looked ready to fight for the position after a strong spring game, but it appears he is preferring to pursue other interests outside of football.
Update: Kelly’s remark was included in a release from LSU confirming Brennan’s retirement.
