After the Blues’ incredible 2023–24 season, in which they finished second in the division a year after being promoted from League One, the town manager had previously won the EFL Championship award.

Since early this evening, reports of Mauricio Pochettino’s exit from Stamford Bridge have sparked speculation about Chelsea’s interest in McKenna.

The Northern Irishman is reportedly one of the West Londoners’ possible targets, but it would be unexpected if they hired a manager who hasn’t overseen a Premier League match yet.

Though most bookmakers still rank McKenna as the Seagulls’ top choice, some are beginning to favor Nice manager Francesco Farioli, who was Roberto de Zerbi’s choice when he left the team. Brighton is still very interested in the position.

Prior to their first Premier League season in 22 years, the Blues were reportedly prepared to make every effort to retain McKenna at Portman Road.

McKenna signed fresh terms with Town last summer, and his deal is good until the summer of 2027. Should another club choose to recruit him, the Blues would allegedly be entitled to compensation in the amount of £6 million.
