The Los Angeles Lakers are hoping to have a big summer following another underwhelming 2023–24 season. This seems to be coming in the shape of a massive trade agreement with the Golden State Warriors, perhaps involving 12-time All-Star Chris Paul.
On Tuesday, NBA insider Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report revealed shocking information on the Lakers’ possible summer trade deadline move for Paul (via Legion Hoops on X, formerly Twitter):
Paul is still bound to the Warriors through 2025, even if the specifics of this possible trade are yet unknown. The 39-year-old, who will make $30 million this season, is about to enter the last year of his current contract.
Since CP3 won’t be available for free this summer, the Lakers’ best chance to get him is if they and the Warriors work out a trade agreement. That is, until Golden State buys out Paul’s contract.
Undoubtedly, Chris Paul is no longer the same superstar he once was and is currently nearing the end of his career. The eleven-time All-NBA guard still has a lot of gas left in the tank, though, as we’ve seen from him this past season with the Dubs.
Although he won’t be LeBron and the Lakers’ salvation, he might be the exceptional playmaker this club has been sorely lacking. The close friendship between CP3 and James is probably going to be a contributing element in this possible move as well.
