Bobby Bowden, who rescued Florida State’s football program from near-oblivion and became one of the most beloved figures in the college game, died early Sunday morning at the age of 91.

A member of the College Football Hall of Fame and the Seminoles’ coach for 34 years from 1976 to 2009 Bowden passed away of pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his wife, the former Ann Estock, six children, 21 grandchildren and thousands of players who were like sons and grandsons to him.
