Jason Torres, a first base transfer from Miami, announced on Instagram on Thursday night that he had committed to Alabama.
Torres is a tremendous acquisition for head coach Rob Vaughn, as he projected as one of the top players in the NCAA transfer portal this cycle.
Torres, who is nearing the end of his second season in Coral Gables, has some positional mobility. Although his regular position was first base, Alabama could choose to use him at third base if they so want. However, his bat is unquestionably the major draw; in 2024, he put up shockingly high numbers.
This season, Torres participated in 39 games and averaged.331. With an OPS of.914, he blasted eight home runs and raked in thirty-two RBIs.
In terms of fielding, Torres made just three mistakes and improved his fielding percentage from 91.7% to 99% this year. Excellent figures for a player who can play either corner of the infield.
Torress, who was raised in Hialeah, Florida, went to Miami Springs High School. He is expected to be drafted this time next season after relocating from his hometown to play in the SEC. There’s no better showcase than the conference that’s thought to be the greatest in collegiate baseball.
If he is selected in the draft, it will be a huge accomplishment for Alabama, which is hoping for a stronger showing in the NCAA Tournament during Vaughn’s sophomore year.
