A former five-star recruit for LSU is scheduled to remove himself from the transfer portal.
LSU Football: John Emery Jr. out for year with torn ACL

Reversing course According to sources who spoke with 247Sports, John Emery, who left the Tigers and joined the portal in April, is now planning to return to LSU.

It marks the end of a process that has been heading in the direction of Emery’s eventual return to the Tigers for a few days. Prior to this happening with LSU, the Louisiana native had visited UCLA and was anticipated to transfer to the Bruins. He is now scheduled to rejoin the Tigers.

Emery has 1,062 running yards and 16 touchdowns in his LSU career. Prior to sustaining an ACL injury during a game against Florida in November of last year, Emery rushed for 121 yards and a touchdown. He is currently recovering from the injury. In 2022, he recorded 13 receptions for 129 yards and two scores in addition to rushing for 375 yards and six touchdowns. That followed his 378-yard run in 2021.

Emery, who will hopefully recover from his ACL tear, will provide the Tigers more depth to complement that of Josh Williams, a fellow senior and the team’s all-time leading rusher with 284 yards last season, and Class of 2023 four-star prospect Kaleb Jackson. With 1,134 rushing yards last season, quarterback Jayden Daniels, who was chosen by the Washington Commanders with the second overall pick in the recent NFL draft, led the Tigers. After the season, Logan Diggs, who led all LSU running backs with 653 rushing yards, used the transfer portal to enroll at Ole Miss.
