Philadelphia has always gotten a bad rep from the media and players for the rowdy and sometimes obnoxious fan base. From hurling snowballs at Santa during an Eagles game to littering the ice with bracelets made to honor long time Flyers owner after a disappointing playoff performance, there is no shortage of fan outrage in the City of Brotherly Love. After being accused of running talent like Ben Simmons and Carson Wentz out of town it seemed like Alec Bohm maybe the next one to back his bags and go — but something interesting happened instead.
When it Rains it Pours
Bohm was in a battle all spring training with Bryson Stott for the starting position in the hot corner for the Phillies this year. After a sluggish sophomore season and some defensive struggles it was understandable that fans where giving Bohm a short leash to start to the 2022 season. On Monday, after 3 errors in as many innings Bohm was subject to a cascade of ‘boos’ from the fans at Citizens Bank Park. After finally getting out of the third inning, Bohm made a routine play that was met with sarcastic cheers from the crowd. A camera caught Bohm saying “I f — ing hate this place” as he trotted off the diamond and fans at home took to twitter — myself included.
