Watch Ringo Starr’s New Video for “Look Up,” the Uplifting Title Track of the Beatles Drummer’s Just-Released Country

Ringo Starr’s latest album, a collection of country tunes titled Look Up, got its release today (January 10). The 11-track collection, on which Starr collaborated with acclaimed producer, musician, and songwriter T Bone Burnett, is the 84-year-old Beatles drummer’s first full-length album in more than five years.

Coinciding with Look Up’s arrival, Ringo has debuted a new music video for the album’s uplifting title track. The song, which was co-written by Burnett and Daniel Tashian, features harmony vocals by Grammy-winning bluegrass artist Molly Tuttle.

 

The video is a celebration of positivity and of Starr’s famous catchphrase, “Peace and Love.” It captures Ringo singing on a sunny day, and also features people of various ages and ethnicities dancing and smiling in a field and flashing peace signs and making hearts with their hands. As the clip comes to an end, it’s revealed that the various people in the field have formed a human peace sign.

 

“Look Up” combines some twangy pop-country sounds with a bit of Beatles-esque psychedelia. The song’s lyrics encourage the listener to keep an optimistic outlook even in the darkest times.

“No matter where you place/ In the human race/ There is mercy/ There is grace/ Look up,” Starr sings. “Up above your head/ Where the music plays/ There’s a light that shines/ In the darkest days/ Look up/ Live to fight another day/ Good things are gonna come your way.”

More About Look Up

As previously reported, Look Up was produced by Burnett, who also wrote or co-wrote nine of the album’s 11 songs. Starr, meanwhile, teamed up with his longtime studio engineer, Bruce Sugar, to co-write the closing track, “Thankful,” which features guest vocals by lauded country/bluegrass artist Alison Krauss.

 

Besides Krauss and Tuttle, Look Up features several other guest artists, including Billy Strings, Lucius, and Larkin Poe. In addition, Starr’s brother-in-law, Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh, contributed slide guitar to song called “Rosetta.”
