Mikel Arteta is rumoured to be on the verge of signing a new contract at Arsenal, however, but that hasn’t stopped him being heavily linked with taking over in Catalonia. Elsewhere there is attention on the market still as Matthijs de Ligt is once more set up for a move from Bayern Munich.

Mikel Arteta and Edu could be on the verge of sealing a huge January transfer just days before the window closes.

The Gunners have endured a very quiet first month of 2024 with Marquinhos’ return from a loan spell at Nantes the only transfer to be announced, however that could change shortly. football.london understands Arsenal are on the lookout for loan deals in the January transfer window, to cover for the loss of players due to absence and injury.

But it could instead be a departure that is sealed for a player that is admired significantly by Arteta.

All the attention is on Arsenal and the striker market ahead of the summer transfer window. Expectations of the problem being solved in the winter go beyond the realms of what can be achieved in a window so dominated by Profit and Sustainability Regulations.

The Gunners have still been linked with some big names and yet Arteta could have the perfect answer to the goal-scoring problems courtesy of Jack Wilshere.

Jurgen Klopp leaving Liverpool will not be the only major managerial exit at the end of the 2023/24 season following a shock announcement over the weekend. On Friday, Klopp shocked the footballing world by revealing he would be departing his position at Anfield at the conclusion of the current campaign after nine years at the club.

Former midfielder and current Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso is the firm frontrunner to succeed Klopp while Brighton head coach Roberto De Zerbi and Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann have also been mooted as other options. For one of those to take over from Klopp, it would require them to depart a club, however just over 24 hours after Klopp’s announcement, it was surprisingly revealed Barcelona would also be after a new manager.

On Saturday evening, following the late 5-3 defeat to Villareal, Xavi confirmed he would be leaving the club at the end of the season. Unfortunately for the Gunners his departure could potentially be awful news come the end of the 2023/24 season.
