Unexpected development: Leigh Griffiths gets hired as a coach
The former striker for Hibs and Celtic has made the decision to pursue his career in Australia.
After being appointed as John Baird’s assistant at Mandurah City FC, former Celtics star Leigh Griffiths is now coaching for the first time while still playing.
After spending the last year in Australia, the former Scotland striker has made the decision to stay, combining his playing career with a coaching role under Baird.
The former Celtic and Hibs striker made an impression in Scotland, England, and on the international scene during his career, but this is his first experience coaching.
He struggled to make an impression at Falkirk and was loaned out by Celtic before being released, which marked the end of his stay in the UK. Nevertheless, he chose to try his luck elsewhere.
“We are pleased to announce our 2024 Mandurah City FC State League Division One Men’s Coaching Staff,” the team said in a statement.
John Baird will once more serve as our team’s captain, and he welcomes Pete Taylor, Zach Headington, and player coach Leigh Griffiths to the squad.
