We’re four rounds into March Madness, but even the most casual of college basketball observers will have recognized that the Alabama Crimson Tide need Mark Sears at his best to win. Thankfully, Sears has reserved his best efforts for the biggest stage.
Sears has been on another level in the NCAA Tournament. The Alabama native has been a scoring machine, dropping 23 or more in all but one of those outings. Consequently, Sears’ points per game is up to 24.3, nearly a three-point jump from his regular season average. Better yet, we’ve also seen a surge in his rebounds, complemented by steady assists and steals.
Increased volume from beyond the arc has accounted for the boost in production. Sears is making it rain from downtown, averaging 9.5 three-pointers per game, with a moderately improved 44.7% three-point shooting percentage.
As we saw against the Clemson Tigers, Alabama’s best chance of continuing their championship conquest runs through Sears.
