Surprising news: The St Louis Cardinals trade their most talented player to another weak Baseball team.
This season, the St. Louis Cardinals haven’t had the kind of start they had hoped for.
This past offseason, St. Louis made significant additions to both its starting rotation and bullpen in an attempt to improve on a terrible 2023 year. The previous season was one of the worst the Cardinals have had in recent memory, and they never appeared to be at full strength.
Before the trade deadline, Zachary Rymer of Bleacher Report listed the top needs and potential solutions for Major League Baseball teams. Remarkably, he brought up the necessity for pitching with the Minnesota Twins and suggested Kyle Gibson of the Cardinals.
“Rather, it’s the back end of the rotation that should have the Twins worried,” Rymer stated. “In the top two places, Pablo López and Joe Ryan have performed admirably, but Minnesota’s other three starters have an 8.25 ERA. It’s a fallout from Sonny Gray’s free agency departure, and it will eventually need to be addressed.
“Alex Wood, Ross Stripling, Paul Blackburn, (and) Kyle Gibson are Possible Solutions. Wood, Stripling, and Gibson in particular, who made his Twins debut as a pitcher
It would be odd to see the Cardinals move away pitching, yet they might wind up being sellers if they struggle. The rotation has been St. Louis’ greatest vulnerability, and the team specifically sought to bolster its ranks with veterans.
Although a move shouldn’t be completely ruled out, the Cardinals won’t be further reducing their rotation unless they are out of the running before the deadline.
