Terrible sad news: The New York Yankees best player has received a sacked note with tears draining from his eyes, which shows a pleading sign.
Oscar González of the New York Yankees fouled a ball off his face in the second inning of the team’s exhibition loss to the Diablos Rojos on Monday night. The ball ricocheted off the bat’s handle straight up into his face, taking off his helmet. The Yankees said González was treated for a right eye contusion at the ballpark. Dr. Carlos Smith, the team physician, accompanied González to Centro Medico ABC in Mexico City for additional testing and evaluation. Gonzalez will spend the night in the hospital with Brandon Rodriguez, one of the team members.
For New York in their 8-5 loss, Jose Trevino had two hits and two RBIs. In two and a third innings, Luis Serna, a 19-year-old right-hander from San Luis Colorado, Mexico, was charged with four hits and five runs.
A few regulars for the Yankees, including Anthony Volpe and Giancarlo Stanton, traveled to Mexico City for the two exhibition games. On Sunday, New York fell short against Diablos Rojos 4-3.
The New York Yankees are the most popular club in Mexico, followed by the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers, according to the Major League Baseball office in Mexico.
