Soon after his first-round defeat at Roland Garros, against Alexander Zverev, Nadal raised doubts over his participation at the Grass Slam.

Transitioning from clay to grass and then returning to clay for the Olympics wouldn’t be a smart move, but before 2024, Rafael Nadal had opted out from the tournament 5 times in his career!

The first time Rafa had to withdraw from the championship was during the initial days of his career, in 2004. The then 17-year-old Spaniard suffered a stress fracture in his left ankle in the Estoril Open while playing against Richard Gasquet. This forced Nadal to take a break from the game for three months, and he was compelled to miss the tournament. Injury continued to trouble the tennis legend in 2009 as well.
