Arsenal keeper’s 3rd clean sheet in 4 puts loan side in promotion places
Arthur Okonkwo kept his third clean sheet in four games as Wrexham shot up into second place in League Two with a win over Morecambe on Saturday.
Wrexham were looking to bounce back after defeat to Accrington Stanley the previous week, and they did so in fine fashion, emerging 6-0 victors against this weekend’s opponents.
Okonkwo had his part to play, making a smart stop from close range in the first half and closing down a one-on-one in the second to ensure his goal remained unbreached.
The goalkeeper also made two high claims, as he continued his good run of form for the side.
The three points saw Wrexham up into the promotion places, leapfrogging Mansfield Town and Notts County into second in the table.
There’s a caveat to that, with Mansfield and Crewe Alexandra both having played one fewer game than Wrexham. Should they win their games in hand, Wrexham would drop out of the automatic promotion places to fourth.
But Wrexham’s run of form since Okonkwo’s League Two debut has been excellent, with six wins, three draws, and just one defeat in his 10 league appearances.
On a personal level, Okonkwo has kept three clean sheets in his last four, as well as helping Wrexham through to the second round of the FA Cup with a win over promotion rivals Mansfield.
There are certainly no complaints about the Arsenal loanee’s form, and he’s sure to be back in the starting lineup again for Wrexham’s trip to Harrogate Town on Tuesday, before playing in the FA Cup second round against Yeovil Town next Sunday.
