Mauricio Pochettino makes a firm demand as Nicolas Jackson sends a strange message to his Chelsea teammates.
Nicolas Jackson has shared a motivational message on social media ahead of Chelsea’s match against Brighton this weekend.
Mauricio Pochettino will be keen to get back to winning ways when he squares up with Roberto De Zerbi at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
The Blues enter the match fresh off a disappointing 4-1 loss to Newcastle United. Prior to their trip to St. James’ Park, Chelsea had enjoyed a promising run, winning against Tottenham Hotspur and earning a point from a hard-fought draw with Manchester City.
The Seagulls, on the other hand, have only picked up one Premier League game in this streak.
Without their captain and only a couple of days’ rest, Jackson will be desperate to win over the Chelsea fanbase this weekend with a goal on home soil. On Instagram, the 22-year-old striker posted a series of training pictures and two motivational messages.
“Don’t look back, you’ll miss what’s in front of you,” he wrote. Then, Jackson added: “Don’t look back, You’re not going that way.”
One would assume that the Blues ace is eager to transform his fortunes in west London after a rocky start. Jackson has featured 12 times for Chelsea in the English top-flight this term, picking up more yellow cards (seven) than he has scored goals (six)
While the Senegal international has showed glimpses of promise, he’s struggled to prove a constant threat for Chelsea. But he’s not the only player who’s struggled for the Blues this season, and Pochettino wants his players to be ‘more consistent’.
In an interview with the official club website, the former Tottenham manager said: “We have certain levels that are required of us and it’s important we get back to those as soon as possible, and sometimes you need a situation like this to make you realise what it takes.
“We are a young, talented squad, but regardless you have to compete every time you step on the pitch. Those are the fundamentals and we have to learn from this.
“We have a lot of talent but we need to show that every week. It’s not enough to show it one week and then not the next. We need to be more consistent.
When you have a good result you are not the best team, and when you lose you are not the worst, so we need to stay together in these tough moments and train hard because we have a very crucial game next week.”
