“Last night, I flipped my little car after running off the driveway while we were racing. I wrecked, but I’m not really hurt,” Saban remarked.
Fortunately, this small incident had minimal effect on Alabama’s campaign that season. Later, Nick Saban and his squad won the SEC Championship and the national championship game on route to compiling a 13-0 perfect season.
With the Crimson Tide, Saban’s victory marked his sixth national championship. As the next step on his path to greatness, he will be trying to make it seven this season by defeating Michigan in the CFP semifinal.
George Helow, a former Michigan assistant coach, was hired by Nick Saban and his group.
The signing of former Michigan coach George Helow by the Crimson Tide prior to their CFP Rose Bowl matchup with the Wolverines was an intriguing staff addition. Helow served as Jim Harbaugh’s linebackers coach in 2021 and 2022.
Prior to the current season, he and the Wolverines parted ways, with the Wolverines bringing Chris Partridge back after three seasons at Ole Miss.

Helow will assist the Crimson Tide in the linebackers department after taking a leave of absence from coaching this season. But this was met with disapproval from Michigan fans, who labeled it “legalized cheating” to give Alabama an advantage over Jim Harbaugh’s unbeaten squad.
Helow did, however, have prior experience as a defensive intern under Nick Saban in 2012. It will be intriguing to observe how his experience can benefit the club going forward.
