After a surprise surgery, Bills $3 million starter posts a message.
In Week 15, the Dallas Cowboys (10-4) were defeated by the Buffalo Bills (8-6) at Highmark Stadium.
Before hurting his wrist, Bills defensive tackle Jordan Phillips had one tackle for a loss, one sack, one quarterback hit, and one pass defensed during the 31-10 thrashing. In the second half, the veteran departed the game and never came back.
On Monday, December 18, Bills head coach Sean McDermott disclosed to reporters that Phillips had surgery right away following the game. McDermott stated of Phillips, “We’ll know more as we continue here the next couple of days,” adding that he is being evaluated on a week-to-week basis.
Even if having surgery right after following a game is concerning, Phillips doesn’t appear that upset. The seasoned lineman teased the Cowboys on Monday after agreeing to a one-year, $3 million deal with the Bills this offseason. “Living life on the edge like I’m 237 #bigboy,” he said with a video he posted of himself sacking Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.
“Him,” said Bills punter Sam Martin. “Bro really killed the Cowboys then got surgery, wishing a speedy recovery,” a fan commented on social media.
According to WIVB, the 31-year-old underwent rotator cuff surgery in the summer and was placed on the physically unable to perform list for a portion of training camp. Since then, Phillips has played in every game this season, replacing DaQuan Jones in the starting lineup due to an injury.
Jordan Phillips has 15 total tackles, 5 quarterback hits, and 2.5 sacks thus far this season. The Bills still have four healthy defensive tackles on the roster: Ed Oliver, Linval Joseph, Tim Settle, and Poona Ford. Phillips won’t play against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 16.
With Jordan Phillips out, the Bills may look to Poona Ford to start, but they may also sign another defensive tackle.
against August 12, 2023, the Getty Bills take against Poona Ford at Highmark Stadium.
The Bills may attempt to add outside help even though Phillips’ injury allows Ford to get the start. According to McDermott, general manager of the Buffalo Bills Brandon Beane is considering signing a defensive tackle “over the next couple of days.”
Given that Ford missed nine games this season due to injury, hearing that remark was probably not good for him. The five-foot-11, 310-pound player is having trouble in Buffalo. He signed a one-year, $2.25 million contract with the Bills after turning down more money elsewhere.
He said earlier this month to The Buffalo News, “It’s just been weird for me.” “I didn’t come here expecting this… I believed I could make a difference and support this squad to victory.
Ford has only made five appearances but has already recorded seven tackles and one QB hit. About not playing, he remarked, “It makes me feel a lot of things.” “It makes me feel a lot of different things, but I won’t go into details.”
The 28-year-old doesn’t understand why he isn’t getting dressed. “I am at ease with the plan,” he declared. It’s not like I actually know the answers to these queries. I have no control over it. I am familiar with my plays. I am aware of what I have to do with the playbook and other things.
It’s a little difficult. I basically simply talk to my family all the time and pray because of this. merely seeking a response. I’m not sure. We’ll see.
But Eric Washington, the defensive line coach for the Bills, seemed optimistic that Ford could rise to the occasion against the Chargers. “I’m sure Poona will be prepared to go, but I don’t think so,” Washington said to reporters on Monday.
The Bills Defense Astonished Everyone by Outplaying the Cowboys
We should all be very proud of the Bills defense for stopping Prescott and company. AJ Epenesa, Tre’Davious White, Jones, Matt Milano, Micah Hyde, and Buffalo were all out of the game, so it was amazing to hold one of the top MVP contenders to just 134 passing yards and zero touchdowns.
The Cowboys led the league in both points per game (40.2) and yards per game (437.4) entering Week 15. Prior to Christian Benford of the Bills intercepting Prescott, the quarterback had not thrown an interception in four straight games.
Though it’s unfortunate to lose yet another starting defensive lineman, Buffalo should be able to function without Phillips in Week 16. In Week 16, the Bills are favored by 13.5 points over Los Angeles.
