When it comes to the front line that is in charge of keeping him safe, Mahomes is obviously feeling the spirit of the season just before Christmas.
The Kansas City Chiefs have prioritized investing in the offensive line for a number of years. In addition to their goal of creating depth up front, they also want elite players to start as their franchise’s bulwark. Patrick Mahomes is showing his appreciation for the holiday spirit and tending to those guys in the days leading up to the team’s Week 16 encounter with the Las Vegas Raiders.
On Wednesday, a number of Chiefs offensive lineman thanked Mahomes on Instagram for giving them personalized golf carts for Christmas.
Each player’s jersey number and last name are displayed on the carts, as seen in the image above featuring posts from Donovan Smith and Creed Humphrey on their individual tales. Nor do the awardees appear to be limited to this season’s first starting five. Linebacker Willie Gay Jr. was riding around in the parking lot outside Arrowhead Stadium with rookie left lineman Wanya Morris driving his brand-new cart in a live Instagram video from earlier on Wednesday.
Mahomes has given his O-line a Christmas gift that is specifically related to golf before. The two-time MVP winner received TaylorMade golf equipment, personalized bags, and boxes of golf balls for every position group last year. It’s common knowledge that quarterbacks give gifts to linemen during the holidays. Since Mahomes is in his second deal and has established himself in the game, he definitely looks out for those who have to keep him clean.
During the offseason, Kansas City’s offensive line saw some adjustments as both of its starting tackles left via free agency. Donovan Smith and Jawaan Taylor were brought in to take their places, although in recent weeks, Morris has filled in on the left side due to Smith’s injury. At left guard, center, and right guard, the same interior combination of Joe Thuney, Humphrey, and Trey Smith is still in place.
As of Week 16, the Chiefs have the second-lowest allowed sack percentage. Mahomes’s exceptional ability to elude sacks contributes to it, but his line is also doing admirably. We can presume Mahomes recognizes that Christmas and the new year are approaching.
