The Stretch 4: Inside Aden Holloway and Tre Donaldson’s scorching sprint at the 1
ESPN: The big ten have drop a huge punishments to AdenH olloway and Tre Donaldson due to…
Over the last three significant victories, Auburn’s young point guards have combined for 78 points, 25 assists, and just two mistakes. That is superior.
Tre Donaldson took the mike last week after Auburn easily defeated UNC Asheville by 25 points in Huntsville. He made a brazen statement about both himself and fellow point guard Aden Holloway.
“We feel like we’re the best guard duo in the country at the 1,” Donaldson stated, echoing the sentiments of many others.
Donaldson continued by saying that USC and probable No. 1 overall choice Isaiah Collier will test the assertion a few days later. Both players passed that test, and Auburn defeated USC by 16 points in a game that never felt close after the first few minutes.
Since a 28-point thrashing of Indiana in Atlanta last season, Auburn has won three straight games against teams that participated in the NCAA Tournament.
Auburn’s two highly productive point guards had combined for an incredible 78 points, 25 assists, and just two turnovers during those three games.
Donaldson described his confidence as it always has been on Thursday, the day before Auburn’s last pre-Christmas game against Alabama State. It’s only enjoyable. Simply us having fun is, I believe, the most important thing.

The Tigers are undoubtedly enjoying themselves on the court, as evidenced by the two youngest players in Auburn’s tremendously deep 11-man rotation playing with such confidence.
Auburn’s assist-to-turnover ratio throughout that time span is an astounding 3.444, per Team Rankings. In the last three games, nobody in college basketball has scored more than 2.900. With a season assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.891, Auburn is fifth in the country. The Tigers have never finished a season higher than 55th under Bruce Pearl.
You could be so impressed with this scorching run of high-scoring, high-efficiency basketball that Auburn’s upset loss at Appalachian State to begin December has gone unnoticed. Along with their season-opening loss against Baylor, there was the Tigers’ second loss of the year. This is mostly the reason why the results of the polls conducted by people don’t accurately reflect Auburn’s standing in the country.
Pearl remarked, “We’ve lost two games so far, and the backcourts of Baylor and Appalachian State outplayed us.” “I don’t think that was meant as a criticism by those guys.” It is what it is. They understand that all of our guards are in competition for every possession and are receiving assistance from our big men as a result. .. Tre and Aden, who are younger players, are probably aware of the learning curve and the fact that every team has competent guards on the court every night.
“Great guards and front-line players are characteristics of great teams. It must be brought by the guards each night.
Not to diminish the impact of shooting guards Denver Jones and K.D. Johnson, or the reliable duo of Chris Moore and Chad Baker-Mazara at small forward, but a significant portion of Auburn’s current success can be attributed to Holloway and Donaldson’s play as floor generals.
Holloway is shooting an even 50% from beyond the arc and averaging 15.3 points and 4.3 assists per game during the last three victories. In addition to making an astounding 84.6% of his 2-point field goals and averaging more than a steal per game, Donaldson is averaging 10.7 points and 3.3 assists per game. They have also mishandled the ball twice.
Holloway remarked, “I think we’ve been doing a great job.” However, I think we can perform better in that one position. Really, I’m just thinking, ‘Just do more,’
Here is this week’s edition of The Stretch 4 for more on the outstanding play from the two young point guards, a preview of Alabama State’s game tonight, and a particular stat to keep an eye on.
Tre Donaldson, PG (Auburn Tigers/Zach Bland)
Tre Donaldson has an extremely high level of confidence.
In terms of minutes played, Donaldson ranks sixth for Auburn during this current three-game winning run. In spite of this, he trails only Jaylin Williams and Baker-Mazara in plus/minus (+43).
Despite his meager seven points versus USC (he only missed one field goal, incidentally), Donaldson had scored ten or more points in three of his previous outings. He was the only bright spot in an otherwise lackluster backcourt against App State.
Despite not being the main point guard, Donaldson’s playing time has significantly increased over the previous campaign. The two-sport standout has thoroughly acclimated to being a professional basketball player, as seen by his sophomore season stat line.
“Assurance,” stated Donaldson. “I was certain I could play. All I had to do was step onto the court and prove to everyone that I could.”
