DETROIT LIONS ENGAGE IN A CHAT
Ben Johnson, the offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions, faces several difficulties this week.

Not only does he need to come up with a plan to counter Brian Flores, but Detroit’s gifted play-caller is sick going into the team’s road game in Week 16.

“You never really understand how much the human body can withstand,” my college coach used to tell me. I heard him say that everyone usually underestimates it. And at the time, when I was in college, it was ignored,” Johnson told reporters. However, after having children, I saw that, “Yeah, OK, you’re tired or you’re not feeling good,” was starting to resonate a little bit more. They still require you, though. You are still needed by them. Thus, you rise and carry out your duties.

“I believe that as coaches, we have a responsibility to support those around us, especially when we’re not feeling our best. Certainly, none of our players are at their best at the moment. I believe that our boys are really proud of that, and this week is no exception.

Electric has been Jahmyr Gibbs.

After using the first half of his rookie season as an adjustment phase, Detroit’s first-round draft pick has elevated his game.

“He’s been electric really since he stepped on the field for us,” stated Johnson. “Whether or not I have observed anything unusual, I’m not sure. Although I am aware that he only had one 30-yard run last week, I doubt that any of us were shocked by it. He has so been reliable. For him, it’s all about the specifics, the turning points in the running game, and knowing in pass pro who he has accountability for. He’s more than willing despite not being a really big guy, and he keeps improving in that regard. That’s presumably the one department where growth is still evident. However, the run game has performed admirably all year.

The expertise of Jared Goff by Brian Flores

The Vikings defense is playing at a high level thanks to the expertise of assistant coach Minnesota’s defensive coordinator.

Despite just three catches for 14 yards, Justin Jefferson's presence was felt in win over Detroit – Twin Cities

Even though Goff is a seasoned veteran, Flores is probably focusing on his performance during the last two seasons rather than watching old footage of him playing with the Rams to help him prepare.

He must be aware of Jared’s ways and part of his manner. We aren’t exactly running the L.A. offense because, in my opinion, Jared has changed over time. Although Jared has improved as a quarterback, we do have some of it,” Johnson remarked. “So, in addition to the latest tape of Jared, where he’s a slightly different player than he was a few years ago, he also needs to keep in mind anything from his background. The same is true of him and the material he recorded in Miami. This week will be exciting since they have some, but not all, of the carryover.
