Matty Godden’s reluctance to celebrate his 49th and 50th goals for Coventry City is certainly cause for great intrigue. Many Sky Blues fans immediately put two and two together and decided the answer is that he’s off; set to leave in the January transfer window.
His actions, or more to the point lack of them, certainly got tongues wagging primarily because it was so out of character from a player who has always been at the cutting edge of celebrations, often keen to come up with new ones and be as inventive and sometimes obscure as he can.
Becoming a dad further fuelled his enthusiasm for the original, with his little boy being the inspiration behind his lawn mower celebration. Interestingly, his quick-fire brace against Oxford in the FA Cup at the weekend was scored on the side of the stadium where his family sit and would, under normal circumstances, see the striker make eye contact with or gesture to his lad in the crowd.
